David Kaplan
A visiting professor to UW-Milwaukee, David Kaplan works on observations of compact objects (mainly neutron stars and white dwarfs), making precision measurements to help understand their basic properties and evolution. Kaplan also works towards using existing and new radio arrays for studies of the time-domain sky.
In chatting with Michael, Kaplan details his recent discovery of the coldest white dwarf star, that some call an Earth sized diamond. Kaplan discusses the perks of being an astrophysicist, how they see the diamond without actually seeing it and how the science referee called him on his 'general relativity.'
