John Hawks is the Vilas-Borghesi Distinguished Achievement Professor of Anthropology at the University of Wisconsin—Madison. He works on the fossil and genetic record of human evolution. Hawks played a signifcant role in the recent discovery of Homo naledi, a new branch on the human family tree.
