Film Critic

Michael Phillips is the Chicago Tribune’s film critic. He appears monthly on the popular movie podcast “Filmspotting,” also heard on Chicago Public Radio. He has appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire,” “Charlie Rose” and, for some reason, “The View.” He co-hosted “At the Movies” with Richard Roeper and, later, A.O. Scott. He has written for the Los Angeles Times, the San Diego Union-Tribune, the St. Paul Pioneer Press and the Twin Cities weekly City Pages, where he started his career as arts editor. He lives with his wife, Tribune columnist Heidi Stevens, and their three children in Chicago.
