Moxie…verve…gusto…exuberance...summed up in Chef Tom Gray’s “American flavors from coast-to-coast” restaurant, Moxie Kitchen + Cocktails, as well as words to describe the two-time Best Chef: South James Beard award-nominated chef himself.
Gray grew up in Jacksonville, Florida and graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. Professional experiences in New York City, Los Angeles and the Napa Valley exposed him to a variety of regional American flavors and techniques, which he incorporates onto Moxie’s seasonal menus. Gray employs a “full-circle approach”, incorporating sustainable sourcing, recycling and eco-friendly practices into the restaurant’s daily operations.
In addition to his James Beard Award nominations, Gray was awarded the Best Chef Jacksonville title by Folio Magazine readers in 2014 and 2015, and Moxie Kitchen + Cocktails was honored in 2014 with Florida Trend’s Golden Spoon Award for Best New Northeast Florida Restaurant. Gray appeared in Tastemade’s The Grill Iron I series, which also aired on The Cooking Channel.
