A live show from the Monona Terrace in Madison, WI featuring musical guest S. Carey and author Michael Perry stops by to chat about his new book The Scavengers. Plus your weekly dose of All the News That Isn't, Thanks For the Memos and two hilarious rounds of the Whad'Ya Know? Quiz!
S. Carey’s chosen musical expression is a hugely beatific, restorative panorama of beauty - perfect given how landscape and the wonder of nature inspire much of Carey’s imagery. His new album 'Range of Light' takes its title from the name that 19th century naturalist John Muir - Carey’s hero - gave to California’s Sierra Nevada, and follows suit with a dazzling array of musical light and shade, drawn from Carey’s love of jazz, modern classical and Americana. Like a weathered mountain range changing shadow form and color, or the ebb and flow of a river’s current, his music is simultaneously restful and rhythmic, complex and simple, and always evolving. All of this can be heard in the brief, but amazing performance on the Whad'Ya Know? stage in Madison. Carey talks about how he got his start, Bon Iver, flyfishing, beatific music and more with Michael.
Michael Perry is a New York Times bestselling author, humorist and radio show host from New Auburn, Wisconsin. Having just released his first young adult novel titled The Scavengers, Perry stops by the Terrace to tell Michael all about it and how it came to be.
